The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the dismissal of three police officers and the reduction in rank of another five.
The PSC’s head of Press and Public Relations, Ikechukwu Ani, said in a statement on Wednesday in Abuja that another 20 officers were severely reprimanded.
He said the fired officers were three Police Assistant Superintendents, while those affected by the reduction in rank include one Assistant Commissioner, one Chief Superintendent, two Superintendents and one Assistant Superintendent.
Mr. Ani said that those who received severe reprimands were one deputy police commissioner, one police chief superintendent, four superintendents, two deputy superintendents and 12 deputy superintendents.
He said that the decisions were taken during the 20th Plenary Meeting of the Commission, chaired by its Chairman, Solomon Arase.
Ani said the meeting dealt with 43 pending disciplinary matters, appeals and petitions.
The PSC spokesman said the commission chairman promised to prioritize the well-being of police officers and deal decisively with cases of infractions when necessary.
He said the meeting also approved the reprimand of six officers, one Superintendent and five Assistant Superintendents.
Mr. Ani added that during the meeting the promotion of 109 senior officials of the Commission was approved.
