Ifeoma Kalu, wife of Nigerian Senate Chief Whip, orji kaluis dead.
Mr. Kalu, who represents the Abia Northern District, announced this in a statement on Monday.
However, he did not reveal when and where the wife died.
“It is with great regret and pain that we announce the passing into eternal glory of Mr. Ifeoma Ada Kalu, 61,” he said in the statement posted on his verified Facebook page.
The senator described the deceased as “a virtuous woman who committed herself to the service of God and humanity.”
He said that a memorial service in honor of his late wife was scheduled in the United States of America.
“Please remember her and her loved ones in prayers in this difficult period,” the senator appealed.
“May her sweet soul rest in perfect peace. Amen,” she added.
Mr. Kalu, former Governor of Abia State, married Ms. Kalu, a doctor, in December 1989.
The couple have four children.

Ms. Kalu’s death comes about a month after her husband won re-election.
Kalu, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), polled 30,809 votes to defeat his closest rival, the Labor Party’s Nnamdi Iroh, who polled 27,540 votes.
