Ogun State Police have given famous hip-hop musician Habeeb Okikiola, commonly called Portable, a 72-hour ultimatum to report to the nearest police station or be arrested.
Earlier Tuesday, two videos of the musician hurling curses at some Nigerian police men surfaced online.
In the two videos, Portable claimed that internet scammers had brought police to his bar to arrest members of his staff “for no reason”.
When contacted by phone, the State Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed that they gave the controversial singer the 72-hour ultimatum.
Oyeyemi said Portable had been asked to turn himself in to the police or risk arrest.
He also confirmed that Portable’s father advocated for his son and promised to take him to the station.
Mr. Oyeyemi explained that the police moved to arrest him after five invitations were sent to him and another through his father, but he rejected all of them.
Mr. Oyeyemi further said that the Zaazu singer was invited for questioning after a young studio owner who claimed that the laptop, along with his boys, beat him to a stupor and shut down his studio, requested the police .
“Upon receiving the request from the police, they sent him an invitation letter five times, but he refused to come to the police station. Again, he was sent a letter of invitation through his father; he hasn’t come to the station yet.
“The police didn’t want law and order to be broken, so his arrest would take place on Tuesday, and now he started with a whole series of videos, saying all sorts of things. His father has been begging, but we have told him that if he refused to turn himself in by Friday, they would arrest him”.
In June 2022, PREMIUM TIMES reported how Portable’s father escorted him to the police headquarters in Eleweran Abeokuta.
This was after he refused to comply with the invitation of the police after beating up a DJ in the Sango area of the state.
Portable has a history of notoriety.
Since its rise to fame in December 2021, hardly a week goes by without Portable making headlines for all the wrong reasons.
In June 2022, Portable apologized to Smooth Productions, organizers of Nigeria’s popular music awards The Headies, who condemned his outburst regarding the nominations.
In a statement, the organizers condemned the controversial artist for threatening the lives of other nominees.
The fast-rising artist was a contender who lost out on Best Street-Hop Artist and Rookie of the Year awards, according to the list of nominees.
