He Independent Commission for Corrupt Practices and Other Related Crimes (ICPC) arrested a counter at Oando Gas Station, Dutse Alhaji, Abuja, for alleged racketeering of the new Naira notes.
This latest arrest followed the Commission’s ongoing attack on elements who have taken advantage of the shortage of new Naira notes to swindle unsuspecting Nigerians.
The ICPC Monitoring Team had previously received a notice that said service station deliberately disconnected its Point of Sale (POS) services so that motorists could not have access to Premium Motor Spirit, popularly called Gasoline, using its ATM ( ATM). ) cards.
Upon arrival at the service station, the team discovered that motorists were forced to pay for the product in cash, and those without the new tickets were directed to a POS operator directly in front of the service station to access the cash. .
The CIPC operatives found out that the POS not only belonged to the service station counter, but was charging a very high and exorbitant fee as a commission against the directive of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
The sum of one million Naira (N1,000,000) was discovered with the POS operator which the team indicated is to be paid into a bank account.
The accountant was arrested along with the POS operator, and the Commission granted administrative bond to both.
