Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos state has called for calm amid protests over ticket shortages in different parts of the state, an official said.

The state’s Information Commissioner, Gbenga Omotoso, made it known in a statement on Friday.
The governor said that the “difficulties and confusion” caused by the federal government’s naira redesign policy have caused pain but will soon come to an end.
“The government commends the Lagosians for showing understanding, despite the pain that the Federal Government’s measures have brought,” the statement read.
The governor assured that “he is working with his colleagues so that this hardship does not continue.”
He urged state residents to avoid violence.
“Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu believes that there is no need for violence as the Supreme Court is investigating this controversial matter and will make its position known on February 22.
“Since then, Lagos State has joined the legal dispute, all in the interest of our people, in the belief that the highest court in the country has the ability to rule on the matter.”

Earlier on Friday, soldiers and policemen were deployed to quell riots that broke out in Mile 12, Ketu, Ojota area of the state due to a shortage of the new naira banknotes.
Many commuters on the Lagos-Ikorodu highway had to circumvent traffic laws to divert their movement.
