The State Security Services (SSS) have said that the invitation from Femi Fani-Kayode, spokesperson for the APC Presidential Campaign Council on Monday, was in regards to an investigation.
SSS Public Relations Officer Peter Afunanya said this in a statement on Tuesday in Abuja.
Afunanya said the investigation concerned some of the former minister’s accusations and insinuations related to issues relevant to national security.
He said that Mr. Fani-Kayode was forced to face a panel that interviewed him on the issue before he was released on administrative bail.
He said the former aviation minister had been ordered to make routine returns to the SSS from Wednesday until he continues his investigation.
Mr. Afunanya called on political parties and their media directors to exercise restraint in their statements and public communication commitments before and after the general elections.
He said the call was to avoid heating up politics and evoking trends that could lead to backlash and undermine peace and order.
Fani-Kayode, via tweet last week, alleged that Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar secretly met with some serving military generals. He said the meeting could be part of a plan to destabilize the country and pave the way for a coup.

The APC campaign spokesman appeared before the secret police on Monday, during which he was questioned for around five hours.
After questioning, Fani-Kayode said she was sorry for what she said.
Since then, the Nigerian army denied the alleged secret meeting with Atiku, describing it as “perverse and very malicious propaganda”.
