Ayo Fayose, former governor of Ekiti state, has said that the next president of Nigeria must be from the southern part of the country.
Fayose, a former PDP presidential hopeful, said via his Twitter account that the party’s constitution allows for rotation of power, adding that he is either a southern president or nothing.
“The current president of Nigeria is a 2-term northern presidency, which means there MUST be a southern presidency in 2023 or NOTHING. Awa ‘South’ lo kan’. Nigerians should expect details soon.
“The PPD Constitution provides for a rotating Presidency. Section 3(c) states that the Party will pursue its goals and objectives “adhering to the policy of rotation and zoning of elective Party and Public positions in compliance with the principle of fairness, justice and equity.”
Reached by phone to further clarify her position, Fayose insisted that a southern president is a fight that needs to be updated.
He said that the PPD has fragmented after the departure of Rabiu Kwankwaso and Peter Obi, former governors of Kano and Anambra, respectively.

Fayose also wondered why the PDP couldn’t allow a southern president to finish the eight-year term of a northerner.
“I am a high level politician in this country and I know what I am talking about and what I am doing. If we allow this country to become something more out of our control, our children will ask us for it in the future.
“If APC can be gentlemanly enough to hand over the presidency to the south, what is the PDP waiting for?
“I am coming out very strong and in the next few days you will see the fireworks. Obi and Kwankwaso have already left the PDP and have taken some PDP votes with them. So PDP is seriously fragmented.
“The Atiku camp is already behaving as if it has already won the presidency.”
