A senator, Aishatu Ahmad, popularly known as Binani, chose the candidacy for governor of the Congress of all progressives (APC) in the state of Adamawa.
Electoral Committee Chairman Gambo Lawal, who revealed this at the end of primary elections on Friday in Yola, the state capital, said Ms. Ahmad got 430 votes to elect the nominee.
He defeated former state Governor Mohammed Bindow, former Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Chairman Nuhu Ribadu and House of Representatives member Abdulrazak Namdas to win the ticket.
Lawal said that the total number of votes cast was 1,011, of which 975 were valid votes and 36 invalid.
He said that Ribadu got 288 votes, Bindow 103 votes, Namdas 94 votes and Wafarninyi Theman 21 votes.
“With the power vested in me as the Counting Director of this election, I hereby declare Aishatu Ahmad Binani as the winner of the election.
“She is the official APC candidate for the gubernatorial election,” Lawal said.

He said that the exercise was successful and transparent.
In her acceptance speech, Ms. Ahmad, who represents the Adamawa Central Senate District, thanked the delegates for the trust placed in her.
He called on the other candidates to work together for the party’s victory in the 2023 general elections at the state and federal levels.
“I call on everyone to ensure the victory of our party and have a government of their own,” he said.
Ms. Ahmad also praised the electoral panel for the transparency of the elections and the trust placed in them.
