Mr. Obanikoro, son of Musiliu Obanikoro, former Minister of State for Defense, lost the APC ticket to Oyekanmi Elegushi, brother of Oba Saheed Elegushi of the Ikate Kingdom by two votes.
Mr. Obanikoro won 23 votes to Mr. Elegushi’s 25 votes in the primaries held in the Iru Victoria Island Local Council Development Area in Lagos.
”At the end of the exercise, Oyekanmi Elegushi got 25 votes; Babajide Obanikoro scored 23; Adegoke Rasaq scored two. Thank you,” said APC electoral officer Tolani Sule.
Elegushi, speaking to reporters after his victory, described the exercise as peaceful and transparent.
He also congratulated the other hopefuls, including Messrs. Obanikoro and Rasaq, saying that “at the end of the day, we are all fighting for the same cause.
”So, I will say that we are all one, Eti-Osa 1 and I thank the delegates, they did their part and voted in conscience.

“I can assure voters that this mandate will be wonderful; we have all our programs aligned and we are not going to wait to get to the office before implementing them. It’s something that people will start to see starting tomorrow,” she said.
The Nigerian News Agency (NAN) reports that 50 delegates took part in the exercise, while three challengers competed for the ticket.
