Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC), formerly the Nigerian National Corporation (NNPC), has expressed interest in participating in the acquisition of power plants put up for sale by the Federal Government through Nigeria Integrated Power Plants (NIPP).
NNPC managing director Mele Kyari, who revealed this when he led the oil and gas company’s senior management team on a visit to the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE) in Abuja on Friday, said the company had the experience and the necessary knowledge. be an active participant in the Nigerian energy sector.
Mr. Kyari said that as an oil company and an enabling organization, NNPC was determined to boost the generation and supply of energy to Nigerian households through increased investment, which is why it signed a contract with China Machinery Engineering Company (CME). ) and General Electric (GE) to provide 50 megawatts of electricity to Maiduguri, Borno state.
According to him, NNPC’s management is determined to run the organization efficiently and profitably for the benefit of shareholders, so it plans to engage in activities that would generate funds; and for the electricity sector, “NNPCL is a partner of choice”.
It revealed that the organization was ready to collaborate with the Office of Public Companies (BPE) following the audit of some of its assets for the sale and divestment of those assets through the BPE. The GMD added that the planned audit would be carried out by well-known and reputable auditing firms.
Earlier, Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE) CEO Alex Okoh said the NNPC had shown interest in acquiring some NIPP plants and would be given a level playing field to compete with other bidders.
Mr. Okoh added that the National Privatization Council (NCP) would be notified of the NNPC’s desire to bid for the NIPP plants.
