
Four inmates were killed in the Nigerian Correctional Center, Kosere area, Ile-Ife, during an escape attempt.
A senior security official, who spoke anonymously, made the disclosure to the Nigerian News Agency (NAN) in Ile-Ife on Tuesday.
The official said some inmates had planned to escape during morning sanitation and while trying to flee the center, they injured a guard.
He explained that the inmates were about to leave by force when security men repelled them, killing four of them in the process, while others who wanted to escape ran backwards.

When contacted, Sola Adeotan, a spokeswoman for the Osun Command of the prison service, said it was a rumor as there was no information about the incident.
However, the police public relations officer, Osun Command, Yemisi Opalola, confirmed the incident. However, he asked for more time to find out the details.
